 The Elephant Escort

A jungle of elephants
Always in the room
With you and I
I walk up to each individual one
And introduce myself.
Explain why I am here,
And all the ways I want to leave.
More importantly; I explain that, before I do,
I need them to vacate the premises
As soon as possible.
So I lay out their plan of departure before them
In grave detail.
I take pieces of myself
Gathered from remnants of the past, present, and future
And spread them out to create a map;
A colourful mosaic of places I've been
Places I vow never to return,
And places I am destined to visit;
As well as where I am today.
The elephants are intrigued by my display,
And they listen intently to the sounds of my journey.
Once they are sated with what they have discovered,
I pleasantly escort them on about their way;
For they are no longer welcome
To invade this room...
Nor are you.
For you have now heard the story as they;
Therefore, you must vacate as well
Because the journey I spoke of to the elephants
Did not involve you as a passenger
In the vehicle that is my life.
So, please.. Let me escort you somewhere more
Suitable.
Farewell.
