Frenemies

I am standing

In a den

Surrounded by

Cardboard figures.

Outwardly, they appear

Cognizant.

They smile.

They laugh.

They beckon me

To interact.

As stars

In the sky

They stare at me

But really

They aspire only to be seen.

They place themselves

In my view;

From afar

They are shiny bright lights

Calling to me.

They desire admiration;

My regard

For their existence.

But the concept of

Conviviality

has escaped them.

And void sets in

Inevitably.
